About
Racing
The UC Cycling Club focuses on road racing competing in collegiate road races in the spring and USCF events in the summer. We do have some attendance at collegiate mountain bike races and cyclocross events. Two years consecutively UC has qualified for mountain bike nationals ('06 & '07) and Brian Nieport competed at cyclocross nationals in December 2007. Superweek is one of the biggest and longest running race series in the US, and we have attended since 1998. Since 2004 we have had riders finishing the pro/amateur level races at Superweek.
Additionally, our riders compete locally every June at Ault Park and volunteer to help run local events such as Ault Park and the Godzulla Challenge.
Training Trips
History
During the summer of 1996 Kevin Harsley and Adam Fuson met while on local training rides and formed a team known as Botanics. This entry level team was led by coach Paul Eddleston and composed of category 3 and 4 riders.
Kevin Harsley and Adam Fuson entered the engineering college in 1999 and founded the UC Cycling Club in 2000. Adam Fuson was elected treasurer of the Club Sports Board (CSB), where he served for 3 years. While serving on the CSB, Adam Fuson met Nathan Bremer, treasurer of the mens rowing club and president of the CSB. After completing his rowing career, Bremer joined the UC Cycling Club and now provides storage for winter training equipment.
During the first year of the club's existence Jason Reser, who had attended UC, opened Reser Bicycle Outfitters in Newport, Kentucky and began a sponsorship of the club that continues today. Reser himself is an experienced cyclist, who was once nationally competitive in mountain biking events. He continues to race at the expert level in mountain bike races and usually is found in the category 3/4 road events.
